Why Web Design Is Unlike Anything Else in Marketing

There is an old rule in business, and life that says you "shouldn't fix something that isn't broken." That's great advice, but we aren't sure that actually applies to business web design. That's because, unlike almost anything else in your company, a successful web presence is something you should be encouraged to change up from time to time.
In other words, just because your business website is working now doesn't mean you should leave it alone. In fact, if you haven't updated your site in a number of years, there are probably five key changes you need to make:
  1. Updates that reflect changes to your business. - If you have new products, services, departments, prices, or personnel, then your website should reflect that. In addition, your logos, taglines, or even competitive positioning might have changed - these are all good reasons to make minor (or even major) changes to your website.

  2. Mobile web compatibility. - Experts say that nearly half of all Internet traffic now comes from smartphones and tablets. But, if you don't have a mobile-friendly website, or a responsive web design, then those customers might be taking their business elsewhere. Shouldn't you make it easy for them to access your site and decide to do business with you?

  3. Better search engine and social media integration. - Not only has search engine optimization changed quite a bit in the past few years, but social media is changing all the rules of content and marketing. Plus, local keywords are now incredibly important to businesses with retail locations, or those that get most of their customers from one geographical area. That means it might be time to overhaul your web strategy.

  4. New content to attract visitors. - One of the best things you can do for your business website is to constantly add new pages, articles, blog posts, and more. A growing site is easier to find on the major search engines, and seems more authoritative and credible to new customers. In other words, it's always a good idea to be an expert in your field.

  5. An Internet marketing strategy that works. - Older websites either didn't come with a solid Internet marketing strategy, or took advantage of one that's now out of date. Very few businesses can afford to fall behind in web marketing, and you don't want a sense of complacency to stop you from growing your bottom line in 2013 and beyond.
Without these kinds of updates and upgrades, your business website will never be "firing on all cylinders," which means it will never be as profitable as it could be.
