Despite failing to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2015
Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea next year, out of contract
coach, Stephen Keshi, has hit hard at the plans by the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) to hire a foreign coach as his successor.
Keshi, who succeeded Samson Siasia that also failed to qualify for the 2012 edition of the tournament, said the NFF could as well get foreign players to play for the national team.
”We should also bring foreign players to play for Nigeria. So if they bring a European coach, they should also come along with ‘Oyinbo’ [white] players,” Keshi noted.
Strikingly, former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, has called on the NFF to decide the fate of the coach and not expect him to resign since he has no contract with the federation.
Chukwu, who guided Nigeria to a bronze medal at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, said since the NFF was the custodian of football in the country, it should take a position on the coach.
“It is the federation that owns the Super Eagles. Keshi does not have a contract with the football federation and now that we didn’t qualify, I don’t think it will be proper for him to resign since his contract has expired. The federation is the over-all boss and if they want him to continue they should offer him a new contract, if not, they should hire somebody else.”
